Song of the Day

June 23rd, 2008

Today’s song is a cover of Neil Young’s Harvest Moon by Pearl Jam and Sleater-Kinney.

I think I chose this song today because now that it’s officially summer and here in Arizona we’ve had seven 110+ degree days prior to that, I’m thinking fall can’t get here soon enough.

The image above is a creation of Wordle. It’s a neat little tool that will take any text you throw at it (like say, the lyrics to Harvest Moon) and create a cloud of words that could be considered art. You can also customize your font, layout, and color scheme. It’s so much fun, it may just end up being wordle week here at the one-hundred.

Ok, back to dreaming of cooler temperatures…

The only explanation: They are not of this world.

June 19th, 2008

I love how you can get lost in the internet. You’ll start out looking for one thing, something shiny catches your eye and *shoop* down the rabbit hole you go. I’m not sure what I was looking for (possibly the only bad thing about getting lost on the internet — you sometimes forget what you were looking for in the first place and all of the things that led up to where you are now – be it Uncle Chuckle’s Funny Bucket or the-onehundred.com – are so tangential that it makes no sense at all. I love it here.) but I found this. Yes, I know it’s from a reality t.v. show and a talent based one at that. But, I saw this and I was mystified.

I think he Can Dance – Watch more free videos

That can’t be real. It just can’t be. How can people do these things? That’s crazy!

So as inquiring minds are wont to do, I started digging around and seeing what else I could turn up on this guy. Among the other videos and in the comments for said videos, a name kept popping up. “David Elsewhere”. Some said that this guy was following in David’s footsteps. Others said that Robert pretty much killed every thing David does. Well, as you might have guessed, I had to look.

I found this:

It starts off kind of innocent. Almost sort of cute. Then at about 0:11 it all goes bananas and your belief in how a body should work gets blasted all to hell.

W.T.F! I don’t care who you are, that’s not normal.

But I must admit, it looks cool as hell. But that’s just my opinion and I’m easy to pl… ooh shiny!

*wanders off*

Regarding Predictions, Bad Movies, and Hints (of the translucent variety)

June 17th, 2008

First, some predictions regarding Jon’s All Time Greatest Movie Theme Songs:

Movies themes that won’t make it:

  • My heart will go on – Titanic
  • I will always love you – The Bodyguard
  • I just called to say I love you – The Lady in Red

Movies themes that are on the fence:

  • Who’s Johnny – Short Circuit
  • The Power of Love – Back to the Future
  • Eye of the Tiger – Rocky III

Movies themes that are shoe-in’s:

I’ve been reading about M. Night Shyamalan’s The Happening and just about how bad it was. I took it all with a grain of salt. I mean, surely, no movie could be that bad. Besides, this is from the guy that directed The Sixth Sense and that movie ruled.

Apparently, I was wrong.

Don’t read it if you plan on seeing it. But if you do plan on seeing it, maybe you should read it anyway and then you can save some money.

And finally, a trailer for a movie that I’ve been told many times to see but have so far, failed to do so. Perhaps soon, I will have time and it’s subject matter will have resonance with me once again.
