Guess the Song: 80’s Edition

Me fail English? That’s unpossible!

Ok, so using iTunes’ neat “Smart Playlist” feature, I’ve created a playlist of songs that were all released between the years of 1980-1989. The next step is, I hit shuffle and I will grab a lyric from the first 10 songs I hear and will place them here. It’s your job to tell me what song the lyric goes to. NO CHEATING! Anyone can use Google — but Google is for quitters and are you a quitter? I didn’t think so.

On to the songs!

Please Note: While I do have an affinity to those songs during the 80’s that were regarded as “New Wave”, not all of the songs in my playlist would be considered as such. Case in point, Led Zeppelin’s last album was released in 1982.

1. I remember redwood trees, bumper cars and wolverines. The ocean’s Trident submarines. Lemons, limes and tangerines, I remember this

2. At night, the people come and go, They talk too fast, and walk too slow. Chasing time from hour to hour, I pour the drinks and crush the flowers. (Carla)

3. You’re hiding from feelings, searching for more, Sharing and hoping, untouched for so long. Our lives still change from the way that we were, And now I’ll tell you something I think you should know. (Matt)

4. Her boots stomp and clomp to my door, The boots that cowboys wear. She’s got sticky little tangles In her big yellow hair. (Jon)

5. These boots were made for walking, the Marquis De Sade never made no boots like these. (Matt)

6. Hide on the promenade, Etch a postcard : How I dearly wish I was not here. (Matt, Mabel)

7. In between, What I find is pleasing and I’m feeling fine. Love is so confusing there’s no peace of mind. (Matt)

8. These people round here wear beaten down eyes, Sunk in smoke dried faces they’re so resigned to what their fate is, But not us, no not us we are far too young and clever. (Carla)

9. You know I even think that she smiled like you, She used to just stand there and smile. And her eyes would go all sort of far away, And stay like that for quite a while. (Carla, Mabel)

10. Like powder needs a spark, Like lies need the dark, I need your love. (Benjamin)

Leave your guesses in the comments and as the correct answers come through, I’ll note them here. Good Luck!

This idea is stolen from inspired by Jess over at Apropos of Something, a fantastically funny blog which you should go read now after you’re done here.

Well, I meant to put in something about you being the only person to get that but I didn’t want to scare anyone off. But I wouldn’t be opposed to you kicking it off if you want to take that one down. Maybe it will inspire others…

If I’m not mistaken, #10 is U2’s Hawkmoon 269 from the Rattle and Hum Album. Or did you solve the last 2 already?
