Alright, you guys did pretty good last time (P.S. #1 – I Remember California by R.E.M. & #10 – Hawkmoon 269 by U2) but I’m going to try and isolate the songs even further. Instead of a whole decade at once, we’re going to do the 90’s year by year. First up – 1990 (How convenient!). I’ll hit shuffle on the ‘pod, get lyrics from the first ten songs I hear and post them. You tell me what songs they come from and you’ll get it all – fame, fortune, and glory* — But NO CHEATING! There’s no fun in cheating and are you a Mr./Mrs. No-Fun-Pants? I didn’t think so!
On to the songs!
1. It makes no difference if you’re black or white, If you’re a boy or a girl. If the music’s pumping it will give you new life, You’re a superstar, yes, that’s what you are, you know it. (Jess)
2. Action speaks louder than words, And I’m a man of great experience. I know you’ve got another man, But I can love you better than him. (Jess)
3. As the rhythm designed to bounce, What counts is that the rhymes, Designed to fill your mind. Now that you’ve realized the prides arrived, We got to pump the stuff to make us tough.
4. Even old New York was once New Amsterdam, Why they changed it I can’t say People just liked it better that way. (Carla)
5. You ever heard the story of Mr. Faded Glory? Say he who rides a pony must someday fall. (Jon)
6. so let me hold it up, just one more go. holding it up for just once more. one more time to fill it up, one more time to kill.
7. it’s that little souvenir of a terrible year, which makes my eyes feel sore. oh I never should have said, the books that you read, were all I loved you for. (Jon)
8. You can’t ignore or hide away, Can’t escape from the things that line our way.
Take it, leave it, or break it, Anyway, you can’t get back to yesterday.
9. Now I sit with different faces, In rented rooms and foreign places. All the people I was kissing, Some are here and some are missing, In the nineteen-nineties.
10. All I wanted to, Was to be with you. Live inside your head, And to kill you dead.
Thanks again to Apropos of Something
*No you won’t.
