I can only imagine some of the thoughts that go through that boy’s head.
“Dad, I have an idea.”
“OK. What’s your idea?”
“We should take turns being the boss.”
“Huh?”
“Like one night you could be the boss. Then the next night it’s Mommy’s turn. Then the next night it’s my turn.”
“You don’t want to be the boss.”
“Why not?”
“Well, why do you want to be the boss?”
“Cause you can do whatever you want!”
“Is this about you being able to play video games whenever you want?”
“…”
“I thought so. Look, you don’t want to be the boss. You have it much better being where you are right now, trust me.”
“Why?”
“Cause when you’re the boss, you don’t get to have a lot of time for things like video games or stuff like that. You have to make sure that everyone around you is ok all the time, that everyone has food to eat, that you have a place to stay, that you have a job so that you can make money for food and shelter and toys for your kids.”
“Ok, ok, Dad.”
“So being the boss… not all that great, huh?”
“I guess not.”

“What if you, me and Mommy ran a race to be the boss?”
