In my head
All. Day. Long.
Good thing I think it’s funny.
“And then another heh-heh-heh-heh-heh.” Good times.

Six years later, this still remains one of the funniest bits on T.V. that I have ever seen.
While you’re watching this, keep this in mind. Seen any YouTube videos lately?
Yay Freedom! Happy Fourth of July!
I don’t know if this was on TV or meant for TV but it should be on TV as it’s pretty darn amazing as well as highly effective in making you feel simultaneously part of something really big and feeling really small at the same time.
I know it’s ten minutes long but please take some time to watch it, I think it’s worth it. It reminds me of the guy that used to do a show on astronomy but I can’t remember his name – the only thing I remember was he usually wore what was akin to a members only jacket and he was green screened so that it appeared that he was walking in space. I know Matt knows who I’m talking about so — Matt, if you’re reading this, please tell me who it is in the comments!

It’s Wednesday. It’s about whatever we want. It’s Whatever Wednesday.
You know, it’s funny. It took a rapper reimagining an anime movie to remind me that I liked an electronica group whose album I may or may not have owned.
Towards the end of last year, Kanye West released his single “Stronger”. I didn’t know it at the time but this song borrowed from Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”, a song off of their sophomore effort “Discovery”. I think I may have actually owned this CD at one point (or files anyway. Hello Limewire users!) but I never got into it the way I did their first album, “Homework”.
Anyway, I’m on Digg and I see a story submitted that mentions that Kanye’s new video borrows from “Akira” (which is, well, it’s an animated movie with some neat visuals. I’m not sure I ever got the story but from what I read, the story was so huge and they tried to put it all into a 124 minute movie. I’m gonna guess that some stuff was left out. My friend Matt and I used to do the “Tetsuooooooooo!” “Kanedaaaaaaaaaa!” back and forth that seemed like 90% of the movies’ dialogue – if you’ve seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about. I know it’s not all of the dialouge, but forgive me, it’s been awhile.). This intrigued me so I sought it out and when I finally found it, it wasn’t bad.
Now while the whole video is not about Akira, there are for sure some scenes right out of the movie (the hospital parts near the end). But what grabbed my attention more was the background music and the robots incessantly telling me that I need to work it harder and move it faster. A little more digging let me know that it was Daft Punk who was behind the robots and memory started creeping back.
I eventually purchased the album through iTunes (ya hear that RIAA?) and the album is a lot better than I remember it, but this isn’t Music Monday, so here’s where we diverge from the music talk.
I know I’m late to the party on this one but watch this:
Kind of mesmerizing, isn’t it? I guess this was a top viral video from last year (I must be on a different internet cause I didn’t see it until long after most people). Still, I’m a big dork over this now and I watch it a couple of times every couple of days. I honestly don’t know if it is the song I’m coming back for (which would be weird because I can hear the song whenever I want now) or if it is because of the hands (which would be weird period.). But just when you thought it couldn’t get weirder…
Granted, a bit more fun to watch for those appreciative of the female form in the audience, but no less mezmerizing. This last video makes me wonder, why would they do this? If you do a search for “Daft Hands” in YouTube, you’ll come across the original and then many, many copy cats, including these “Daft Bodies”. Why? What’s the point? I don’t get it (and please don’t point out that I’m writing this in my blog in hopes that you’ll read it. I get it. Irony.). I understand the idea of wanting to put something out there that maybe people will watch/read/take in and enjoy/hate/have some sort of reaction to. You want to know you’re making some sort of impact on someone, even if it is just “Take a writing class, fatty!”. But the amount of time that surely went into making up that routine, then actually learning it and then trying to tape it without mistakes? That’s what I don’t get.
…
I’ll just attribute it to my knee-jerk reaction of not wanting to be more physically active than I absolutely have to be. Sad, I know.
Alright, leave me alone now. I have to watch these again (you didn’t think I was putting them on this blog for you, did you?).
